It saddens me knowing that many new faces come to newgrounds who never heard of (f)animuation before and just see "shit".
Now I feel old T_T
Damn.
After finding this one I knew it was worth coming back to Newgrounds one more time. Boy, how big a fan was I of Neil Cicierega's Animation back when I was still in school. Me and my best buddy that was...
Deja vu
Well, I can only guess, that it has been a deja vu, because as far as I can tell i have played this game exactly one time. So he died one time. ...wait a second. He died one time? Considering, that to this point at least 40.000 people have opened this submission it might as well be, that he died around that number of times. 40.000 extra lives, equally divided by 40.000 players...
Actually, I did have seen this before in another game I have stumbled upon. A game where you see a scene though a scope, aiming at a blindfolded guy tied to a pole. To win the game, you just had to hit escape. A curious minded player, used to the idea of scoring by shooting at virtual persons might consider it a good idea to just shoot the guy. The game wrote a key into the registry to keep you from playing again. "Some decisions bear consequenced which can not be undone"
Jeez, imagine if you bought a cartridge for an older game system where you actually only got one life. Would you buy another cartridge to try again, would you smash the cartridge in anger... or just wait until someone managed to beat the game and puts it on youtube...
Luckily such things don't really happen and the idea of games with only one real try are only a feature of indie games and... well... arcade games.
I made it to World 5. Woo!
[This game was very short, but entertaining for the time being. Message got delivered and you aren't in danger of getting bored if you stop pestering the grave over and over]
That game is Execution, by Jesse Venbrux (better known for his Super Karoshi games)
An Improvement
This game really is an improvement to it's prequel, even though it's not too easy to top it.
The graphics were on par with the quality of the sequel. the level of detail, the effects. There was more action going on in the second one
Well, actually things became way more calm than in the second game. it feels like you have plenty of time now.
It's nice, that you don't have to select the tools by yourself. i wouldn't call it an improvement though, more an alteration.
My biggest Pro point, though, was the scenario. I really like this cyberpunkish medic idea, even though i have problems to imagine what actually is happening to the people... is it a mystical healing or does some stranger, maybe some machine appear suddenly..
The only con part i could probably think of, as in the first and second one, it feels rather short. 5 surgeries and you are done. But i don't think anyone can blame you for this. Only thinking about, that you hand-crafted all this artwork on photoshop makes me go dizzy in my general head area...
I really loved it and can't wait for the next one... This would also be the perfect idea for a modular type of game, where you can incrementally add new surgeries.

...as for everyone whining, that they can't complete the first surgery, i have a very valuable piece of advice... READ! (If that doesn't help: Top right corner)
An improved not able to be put in letters
I just told my b/f about dark cut, don't remember why, but after that i felt like playing again. I was surprised, happily surprised, that there was a second part which beats the first one on every point.
This part introduced a whole new element into the game, which lacked in the first one: Pressure... And not only pressure. Lots of pressure, especially on the first time playing. Whisky, Whisky, Whisky, Whisky, Rag.. alright, where is the... oh shit, moved to fast, he's fading faster, more whiskey, shit, wrong direction. The game is fast-paced, intense, the violence and sudden events like writhing in pain alongside imagery that feels like it is rushing through your face like raging water is sure to thrill you (on your first play)
for being drawn exclusively in photoshop, the imagery is superb. It's bloody, dark and builds up the mood very good. This is where music and ambient noises also add to as well.
Adding autosave and retry was a fair treat.
The thing i enjoyed the most was the twist at the fourth level. I do not want to talk about it here directly, but let me say, that it, albeit predictable, was done very well as a final for the game.
That was a lot of positive text about the game... Negative things... Negative things... Well, the only thing i can think of right now is, as in the first game, it was rather short. But considering that it is a flash game and a lot of work, especially the artwork, i happily overlook that.
All in all an excellent piece of work. I am looking forward to an possible sequel...
